School Overview

Grayson Elementary is proud to offer a differentiated, rigorous academic program as well as a thoughtful and intentional social and emotional learning focus. Our students engage in daily whole group mini lessons and small group lessons in literacy, math, social studies, and science. Our teachers are skilled in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students. In addition to whole group mini lessons and small group instruction, our students also participate in partner and independent work that reinforces key concepts, skills, and strategies taught. In addition to our stellar academic program, Grayson thrives on a culture built on the notion that social and emotional learning (SEL) is tantamount to academics. We utilize CASEL’s Core SEL Competencies Framework (www.casel.org). CASEL’s integrated framework promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence around responsible decision making, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness, and social awareness. We seamlessly integrate these competencies with Restorative Practices (www.iirp.edu). One of the hallmarks of our work with Restorative Practices is our daily uses of circles. Our intention behind these circles is to build community, celebrate our accomplishments, and repair harm to our community.
