The Waterford Foundation for Public Education will hold its Annual Golf Outing on Tuesday, June 19, 8:00 a.m. shotgun start, at Fountains Golf and Banquet Center in Clarkston. Each year the Waterford Foundation honors an outstanding individual who has achieved success and is active in service to her or his community. This year's honorees are Margie and Don Arsen, who are being recognized for their many years of volunteerism, involvement with community organizations and boards, and personal contributions.\

Margie established an endowment to support programming at the Stepanski Early Childhood Center. After serving in the military and graduating from CMU, Don worked as a teacher, counselor, elementary principal, and director of adult education. He developed the adult education program into one of the State's premier programs.

Don served as a board trustee for the Waterford Foundation for Public Education for over 30 years. He was a member of the Waterford Foundation design team prior to its establishment in 1984. Margie and Don have been part of many Waterford Foundation major fundraisers including the Annual Golf Outing and the employee payroll deduction campaign. They also made significant personal contributions to benefit teaching and learning in the District, including monetary contributions, the Don and Margie Arsen Early Childhood Grant Fund, and National Geographic Kids subscriptions to all Waterford second grade classrooms to name a few.\

Established in 1984, the mission of the Waterford Foundation is to recognize and promote excellence in teaching and learning. The Waterford Foundation was created to generate private funding, in the form of grants, to support innovative curricular programs not funded through the Waterford School District. The Waterford Foundation has awarded over $2 million to the staff and students of the District to finance research and equipment, special materials, science and math workshops, and a variety of instructional projects and programs.

The Waterford Foundation operates through contributions, grants, memorials, and fundraisers. Other Waterford Foundation recognition programs include Teacher of the Year, Select 50, the Al Dittrich Memorial Scholarship, and the Waterford Durant High School Most Improved Award.

Sponsors for this event include Barton Malow and French Associates Architects, Presenting Sponsors, and McLaren Oakland, Dr. Jim & Lori Stepanski, and Tom & Gail Wiseman, Bronze Sponsors.
