Joan Sutherland Photo

Joan Sutherland was elected in 2008. Her term expires in 2018.

I am a lifelong resident of Waterford and a proud alumna of Adams, Mason, and Waterford Mott. My husband Greg and I are privileged to have raised our four children here, all of whom attended and graduated from Waterford Schools. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree and a MBA with a concentration in finance. I have worked in the automotive industry for over 30 years and am currently working as a business and systems analyst for General Motors.

Our young people, and society as a whole, face significant pressures as a result of an ever changing political landscape, intense economic challenges, light-speed media information exchanges, and the demands of a global economy. I believe that education is the key to addressing these challenges, and moreover, that a quality education is the essential foundation for a flourishing democracy. I am an ardent and fervent supporter of public schools and consider it an immense privilege to serve as a steward for the Waterford School District, a voice for our staff and community, and most especially, and advocate for our youngest citizens.
